You can reach Spiti Valley from 2 Routes, One is from Shimla and another one is from Manali. Let's discuss them in Detail:


  • Shimla To Spiti: Spiti is around 420 kilometers far from the Shimla Hill Station and It'll take you around 18-20 hours to cover that distance. The Road Trip from this route is beautiful indeed by taking that stop of Reckong Peo into account. If you're an Indian then you don't need any permit to reach spiti but if you are a foreigner then you must get an Inner Line Permit to Travel beyond the Reckong Peo to Spiti. 

  • Manali To Spiti: The Distance between Manali and Spiti Valley is somewhere around 200 kilometers which can be covered within 10-12 hours. Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass are covered in snow all around the year mostly, and the roads are open to travel between June-October. This Route is popular among the Motorcycle Enthusiasts. In Losar Village, you'll find a Police Checkpoint, where tourists from foreign countries need to verify their passport and register their details.

  • By Flight: The Nearest Airport is in Bhuntar, near Kullu. But it is a small one. If you are looking for a nearest International Airport then Chandigarh Airport is the nearest airport at a distance of about 522 km from Spiti Valley. 
  • By Train: The Nearest Railway with good connectivity close to Spiti Valley is in Chandigarh. 
  • By Bus: Direct Buses are operating to Spiti Valley from Shimla, Chandigarh, Kullu, and Manali, etc.

  • Komic: Komic is the Continent's Highest Village with Spiti's Highest Monastery at a height of 15,049 feet above Sea Level.

  • Giu: Giu village is popular because of a 500-year-old mummy. The mummy looks so real – nails, hair, and teeth that it gives an impression of a living being.

  • Hikkim: In Hikkim, you'll witness the world's highest post office.

  • Langza: Huge and colorful statue of Lord Buddha, also known for its fossils. 

  • Lhalung: Lhalung has a great variety of flora including the well-known Seabuckthorn Trees.

  • Ki Monastery: It is the Largest Monastery in Spiti Valley with narrow staircases and courtyards. An Annual 3 Day Festival is held in Late July known as Chaam Festival where you can spot dancing masked monks.

  • Tabo Monastery: It is the oldest Monastery, and located nearly 2 hours away from Kaza. Caves that are served as a meditation spot can be found near this monastery.

  • Dhankar Monastery: Listed as one of the hundred endangered monuments in the entire world. Built around 1000 years ago, Dhankar Monastery is also known as  Dhangkar Gompa or Dhankar.
